March Mayhem 2008

March 14th will be a day that goes down in PWA history as a day of complete Mayhem. One can almost assume the aptly named show that took place that day was a precursor of sorts. The night kicked off in grand fashion as Sharmell made her way to the ring with a cake in one hand and a microphone in the other. It looked as if Booker’s birthday bash was going to be kicked into high gear. Sharmell invited her husband and his students to the ring for the big celebration. As Booker made his way down the aisle he was beaming like a child on Christmas morning. One could tell how happy he was to be able to celebrate his birthday with all his students and fans. Just as Booker was in mid-sentence thanking everyone, Team 3D reared its ugly head and brought the festive celebration to a screeching halt.

Bubba Ray and Devon were accompanied to the ring by Pat Brink, one of their students, as well as the Benedict Arnold of the PWA, Chris “The Pride” Adams. After some in ring commotion, a match was made for later that night where Booker, along with his top 3 students, was set to face Team 3D in a 4 on 4 match. As Team 3D was leaving the ring, Booker proclaimed, “There will be a serious beat down later on tonight. Now can you dig that, Suckaaaaa?” And so it was set – Team PWA takes on Team 3D.

With the main event match set, there was still much more PWA action to take place. The first bout of the night had the man from the streets, Tank Bishop, representing the Wrecking Crew as he took on Eddie Craven of 3:10 Express. Eddie was accompanied to the ring by his little brother Kid Ransom. This match seemed to be going just the way Tank wanted it to and it looked as if Tank was going to get the early pinfall on Craven. But Craven was able to kick out at the last second and tried to mount some offense. His efforts did not go unrewarded and soon the tables had been turned on Tank. From there on the match seemed to go back and forth. Who would win was anyone’s guess. Then out of nowhere, Tank exploded with some massive forearms to the chest of Craven and set him up for his finisher, The Explosion. When it looked like Tank had the match won again, Kid Ransom made his presence felt. Ransom got up on the ring apron and distracted the ref, so Tank was unable to get the count. That was just the opening that Craven needed, and being the opportunist that he is, he was able to get Tank for the pinfall. One has to imagine that this rivalry is far from over. Both men are members of dominating tag teams amongst the PWA’s elite. Both teams want to wear the PWA gold. Will they have to meet again to face the Steele-Dawgs for the title? What kind of retribution will Tank be looking to get on Kid Ransom for costing him the match? Only time will tell…

Next up, the “Seven-Foot Psycho” Cyrus continued his reign of terror over the PWA as he took on Rock Star Robbie Gilmore. While Cyrus, the monster of a man that he is, got the win in less than two minutes – Robbie did get two impressive drop kicks in. The bottom line is though, while the drop kicks would have been effective against anyone else, Cyrus barely flinched from them. From there on it was all down hill for Robbie due to a monstrous power slam followed by a choke slam that nearly sent Robbie crashing through the mat. With that, Cyrus picked up the win by dominating yet another opponent. Is there anyone in the PWA that can stop this man beast?

Once the ring was safe (meaning free of Cyrus), the ring announcer made his way back to invite every female in the PWA to the ring. The announcement was made that there would soon be a PWA Women’s Champion! But apparently there was an objection. TNA knockout Roxxi Laveaux made her presence felt as she walked to the ring and proceeded to challenge anyone who would dare oppose her. With that, the voice of Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler filled the arena as “Dude Looks Like A Lady” blasted over the loud speakers. Out came Kelly Kevin to a huge cheer from the crowd. She made her way to the ring, flipping her hair and blowing kisses to the crowd, and promptly accepted Laveaux’s challenge. The match that followed was one that will forever be emblazed in the minds of PWA fans. It was an exciting match with tons of back and forth action. However, the closest Kelly ever got to the win was a two count. In the end, it was a vicious spear from Laveaux that ended the match. When Roxxi was approached for a comment, she blankly stared ahead as if she was somewhere else and swiftly walked away; this of course being typical Roxxi fashion. Kelly Kevin, however, had plenty to say after the match and one thing is for sure, an ego is one thing this young lady isn’t lacking. “Roxxi was a very hard opponent and I feel that I could have won. I got caught up in my own sexiness. I blew a kiss to this sexy thing at ringside and I got distracted,” Kelly said. When asked about the PWA Women’s Championship, Kelly said, “As far as I’m concerned, I am the rightful owner of any PWA Women’s Title. No other dive has the record I do. I am the only one that has gone 2 and 1.”

The next match of the night featured the former PWA Champion, Neico, taking on Alex Pourto, formerly known as Surfin’ Surge. Neico had control of this match from the get go when he took down Alex early on. Just when Pourto looked to gain some sort of control in the match, things went from bad to worse for him. Coming from the crowd and into the ring was his former friend and tag team partner, Gabe Hollier. Just by the look on Pourto’s face, he knew he was in trouble. Hollier proceeded to beat Alex like never before and Neico watched all of this while relaxing atop the ring ropes. Finally the two were broken apart and the match was called a no contest. It is safe to assume that since Neico had been in firm control of the match, he would have won in the end. What isn’t certain however, is what will happen next between Hollier and Pourto. One can only guess that the two will have to meet in the ring very soon. When they do, one thing is for sure – it won’t be a wrestling match, but more of a full on brawl.

Next it was time for the PWA Championship match! This was a match of two old rivals renewing their long withstanding feud. If you have been a fan of the PWA for more than a few months, it’s easy to recall the epic battles that have taken place between Gustavo Mendoza and V.I.P. This match was no different, other than this time around V.I.P. is the champion and his title is on the line. Since the last time these two warriors met in the ring a lot has changed in the PWA, but their seeming hatred for one another has not. As soon as both men were in the ring, a bone chilling nose to nose stare down took place. From the sound of the bell it was a brutal and intense match. Each man seemed to place just a little more energy behind every slap, punch, and forearm. Every submission hold seemed to be held just a little bit tighter. In a match that had no clear advantage either way, the only difference maker seemed to be Gustavo’s Secretary of Defense, Rubio. He was able to help Gustavo gain the advantage at one point by distracting the ref. With the small advantage on his side, Gustavo lay into V.I.P. It was short lived though, as V.I.P. quickly recovered. Finally, the tide seemed to turn in the favor of Gustavo when he slammed V.I.P. to the mat from the second rope. However, this move knocked out both men and the ref. Gustavo and V.I.P. seemed to summon the strength from deep within as they crawled towards one another and rolled each other up AT THE SAME TIME! With the ref still unconscious, another PWA ref came from the back and began counting the pinfall just as the first ref was coming to. This led the second ref to award the match to Gustavo, while the first ref (who was fully awake at this point) awarded the match to V.I.P. Even though both men had their hands raised in victory, there was no clear winner. It was announced that at next month’s show there will be a rematch for the PWA Championship. After the match both men were in foul moods. V.I.P. felt he had been cheated and he couldn’t understand why Gustavo had been given a championship match because he hadn’t beaten anyone to deserve a shot. V.I.P. was adamant that his fans knew he was the rightful champion and he would beat Gustavo again next month!

Now it was the moment of the night that everyone had been waiting for. First out to the ring we had Team 3D, complete with Pat Brink and Chris “The Pride” Adams. Their entrance music was barely audible above the resounding chorus of boos coming from the crowd. As soon as Booker’s music hit, the boos turned to cheers and it was obvious who the crowd was behind. Booker made his way to the ring accompanied by former PWA Champion, Brett Idol, Samson, and the other half of the Wrecking Crew, Mike B. Nasty. What followed was something that will scar PWA fans for a long time to come. It was clear early on that Booker wanted nothing more than to get his hands on both Brother Devon and The Pride. While Booker got the chance to do some damage on the two, the man who took the worst beating in the ring was Mike B. Nasty. It seemed as if every member of Team 3D got their licks on him. The match had been going clean for the most part, but it was only a matter of time before “mayhem” broke out. Soon all members of both teams were fighting inside and outside of the ring. The ref had no control of what was going on. Booker T. and Devon were locking it up on one side of the ring while Mike B. Nasty and Pat Brink were exchanging blows left and right on the other side. Brett Idol and Bubba Ray were fighting outside the ring. In the midst of all the chaos, it was Samson who proved to be the better man over The Pride as he was able to roll him up to get the three count. This secured the win for Team PWA and presumably ended Booker’s birthday celebration on a high note! However, it was not to be. Being the sore losers that they are, Team 3D pulled a wild card from their sleeves. From out of the crowd came another one of Bubba and Devon’s students dressed in pink and white trunks and a pink top hat. He helped turn this 4 on 4 bout into a 5 on 4 bout. Although the match was over, Team 3D was far from done with dishing out punishment. After taking apart all the members of Team PWA, Booker T. was left alone in the middle of the ring. Devon and Bubba set him up for Devon’s flying head but and that was all she wrote. Booker was left in a withering heap, knocked out on the mat. Bubba then got on the microphone and tauntingly sang Happy Birthday to Booker. Afterwards he announced that the wrestler that had come from the crowd was “Mr. Irresistible” who couldn’t “resist” helping to put the PWA out of commission. Unfortunately for Booker, his promise of a beating earlier in the night had come true. Only, Booker T. was on the receiving end of it. Knowing Booker T., he won’t take this lying down and he is sure to have something in store for the members of Team 3D – especially Bubba Ray and Devon. PWA reporters were able to get comments from Devon and Bubba Ray who were more than happy to gloat about their dismantling of Team PWA. “We set the trend. We showed that our wrestling academy is the best that’s out there. We showed PWA that they are second rage to Team 3D. Booker’s birthday present from us was a royal beat down. It’s no different than what we did in WWE and no different than what we will do in TNA. It’s just sweeter because this beat down took place on Booker’s home turf. Oh my brother, TESTIFY,” proclaimed Devon. Bubba sang a similar tune when asked about his thoughts on the night, “You know exactly what happened. Team 3D came to the Pasadena Convention Center and did exactly what we said we would do. We destroyed Booker and all of his fans once again – proving that the Team 3D Academy is far superior to the Booker T. PWA Academy.” When asked where it goes from here, Bubba Ray was quick to answer, “It doesn’t have to go much farther. We left Booker T. laying in the middle of the ring on his birthday. We beat the crap out of him and that’s it. If Booker wants to man up and find a partner for me and Devon to face him, then we are more than happy to come down here and beat him up again.”

It is safe to assume that while in Team 3D’s eyes their business with PWA may be done, it is far from over. Booker T. is a man of respect and courage, and he is likely going to avenge this treachery. So, while March Mayhem left many questions unanswered, be sure to join us next month at Showdown in P-Town for the continuation of these epic battles. That’s Saturday April 19th at 7:30pm. You don’t want to miss out! You don’t want to get shut out! And I know you can dig that, Suckaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
